Here you will find answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions about 10ticks
Q. Why should I register with the website ?
A. When you register it allows you extra functions. If your child attempts the 'Helps' in the student section of the website it records all the scores. When he/she has attempted a few you can then see the scores and diagnose areas of weaknesses. You can then focus him/her on the 'Help' topics and improve their scores in this area. The site will record your personal highscores in the Funhouse section. We also send out regular newsletters that you can choose to receive or not. When you don't want your account anymore you can delete it from your user area. You are in charge of all your data.
Q. What happens to my account if I don't use it ?
A. The website records the last date you logged in to your account. If your account has not been used for two years then the account is automatically deleted. When this happens all your details are lost, your high scores, test scores and other user details. This is an automated process and this information can not be retrieved at a later date. The moral ? Login regularly!!
Q. Some how I have deleted my account and I want it back! What should I do?
A. E-mail us as soon as you can, we may be able to save it - but no promises!!

Q. Does this cover the latest mathematical curriculum
?
A. Yes. The packs have been written in line with the National
Numeracy strategy that is used in state schools in England,
Wales and Northern Ireland. The higher levels have been written
in line with the GCSE syllabus 2003. The material offers thorough
coverage of the topics you need.
Q. Are these any use for the Scottish curriculum?
A. Yes. The materials are rich in content and have thorough
coverage of the topics your child will have to be taught.
They are referenced to the English National Curriculum, but
as a guide Level 4 and Level 5 are roughly equivalent to the
age range 9 - 12 years old.
Q. How do I know what level to buy for my child ?
A. Ask his/her teacher.
Q. Why should I buy these when my child does maths at school
?
A. Unfortunately there is a shortage of specialist mathematics
teachers in the UK. This way you can monitor your childs
progress through the National Curriculum whilst supporting
the work done at school. You will be able add to your childs
learning experience first hand - after all they only get one
chance.
Q. How can I use the worksheets with my child ?
A. Maths is a core subject in the National Curriculum and
it is essential to your childs future career choices.
It is important that he/she understands the work at the pace
the classroom teacher works. Find related topics to the ones
covered at school and the exercises can be used to supplement
this work. The games and puzzles can be enjoyed by all the
members of the family and be used as a fun way of consolidating
fundamental skills. The worksheets can also be used as a way
of revising earlier work you feel you child may not fully
of grasped at the time

Q. How do I search for a Tutor?
A. You will see three directories, Subject, County and LEA. Enter these directories to refine your search. From here you will see a list of potential tutors, click on the name to read their adverts.
Q. How do I contact a Tutor?
A. On the advert the tutor will have specified a contact method, use that. If you use the form to contact them, please ensure that your contact details are filled in correctly, particularly if you are leaving an e-mail address. If your details are incorrect the tutor has no way of contacting you.
Q. How much will a Tutor charge?
A. This is completely between you and the tutor. As a guide, typical charges have been between £12 and £25 an hour depending on level of expertise required and geographical location.
Q. Do you 'vet' the Tutors?
A. No. Just as a newspaper does not check the credentials of its advertisers, we cannot 'vet' applicants. The responsibility of ensuring that a tutor is suitable for your needs rests with you. Sensible precautions with regard to child safety are recommended. Please ensure that you have taken adequate precautions before allowing any one into your home.
Q. Should I check out a Tutor?
A. Yes. We would expect you to run checks on your tutor, as you would anyone coming into your home. You would be well advised to see a copy of testimonials the Tutor has or references. Ring up people from these references and ask them about the Tutor. Check qualifications offered by looking at original certificates. See if they are currently teaching and in what type of establishment. If in doubt don't take them on.
Q. I've searched and can't find anyone?
A. If Tutors have switched off their adverts we don't show them. It could be that they are full. For example, if you look under the County directory and can't see that County then there are no adverts under that County. This is to save you time searching. Adverts change every week so it is worth checking back regularly.
Important: It could be that a Tutor advertisement is switched off for that area/subject - but by placing your own advert for a Tutor any Tutor that is a good match for you (switched off or otherwise) will be alerted to your advert by e-mail.
Q. How do I place an advert and how much does it cost?
A. You need to be a Registered User of the website to place an advert. Login and simply click on Place Advert and fill in the forms. We have given guidance to each section as you go through it. This is so that tutors have a uniform set of adverts to view. This is easier for them to search. Placing an advert is FREE. If you are not registered register here FREE.
Q. What will happen when I place an advert?
A. As soon as you place an advert an e-mail alert will be sent out to any Tutors who are good matches to your advert - even if they have switched off their advert! You will also receive from us a list of good matches from the Tutors adverts to your advert by e-mail.
Q. How will potential Tutors search for me?
A. They will search the three criteria in our directories. You select the information for the directories when submitting your advert.
Subject (Up to three subjects can be sought)
County (This your geographical location and how far you may be willing to travel.)
LEA (Again geographical areas that you cover).
Q. Doesn't this restrict the information I can give out?
A. This is only part of the information you submit. You offer more details in the on-line forms. You can specify the exact details of times, places, ability level of your child and your expectations from the tuition.
Q. How will Tutors contact me?
A. When you fill in your advert you will have options that show how you wish to be contacted. You can use any combination of these. You control this through your User Area and they can be amended by you at any time. The options are - show address, show phone number, show e-mail address, fill in form. By opting fill in form only you won't give out any private details, the draw back is that if any details filled in on the form are incorrect you have no way of contacting that person.
Note: Only personal information you allow will be given out on the website.
Q. Do I have to keep visiting the website to get my contacts?
A. All contacts made through the form or e-mail options are e-mailed to you. Potential Tutors may contact you through your phone number if this is one of your preferred contact options.
Q. Do I get any other contact method for Tutors?
A. When you first post your advert we will e-mail you with any good matches to your advert already on our website.
If, at a later date, a Tutor signs up for an advert and they match the details you desire an e-mail alert will be sent to you. This will happen whether or not your advert is switched on. This way you may find time to swap Tutors if you feel it necessary.
Q. How long before my advert will appear?
A. Have you filled in the online forms, proof read it and submitted it ? If so it will appear straight away!!!
Q. What happens if I want to change/not display my advert?
A. You control your advert through the User Area. You an access this area at anytime and change any details you wish. You are in full control of your advert. From this area you can switch off 'Show Advert' and the advert will not appear on the website. The advert will still be in your User Area ready for you to Switch On/Edit at a later date. You can also delete you advert from the database if you wish.
Q. Will the advert run for ever?
A. After 11 months we will contact you by e-mail and ask if you wish to keep the advert running, if you do just follow the instructions. The reason we will do this is to enable us to clear out old data from our database. Old data just fills up server space and makes the website less efficient to run.
Q. Do we inform you if we get a Tutor?
A. No. The only thing you may need to do is to amend your advert appropriately.
Q. Why should we advertise with you?
A. We are a unique website in the fact that our regular visitors make up of thousands of teachers and parents. Hence we can bring these two bodies of people together for mutual benefit. What's more it is FREE, National and you can be very specific in your requirements.
