10ticks FAQ's

Here you will find answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions about 10ticks

  Register

Q: Does it cost anything to register as a user?
A: No!!

Q: Why should I register?
A: You get to see stuff others don't. There are extra pages just for you. Also there is a database that can store all your 'help' and high scores which will help you improve your maths.

Q: What do I need to register?
A: Quite simply a valid e-mail address!! As soon as you register (within a minute!) you will be sent, by e-mail, your login details. If you don't get this e-mail the most likely reason is you have mis-spelled your e-mail address!! Try again!

Q: If I register will you send me loads of e-mail junk?
A: We comply with the data protection act. Simply - you're in charge! When you register you decide if you want our newsletter. It isn't a big decision as when you login to your user area you can turn this option on or off at any time. If you put in your date of birth and allow us to send you newsletters then we can send you a birthday card.

Q: Can I close my account when I want?
A: You control everything from your user area. You can delete your account, edit details and change your school!! You can even put in your friends e-mail addresses and dates of birth and we send them a birthday card from you!! How's that for convenience!!

Q: What type of a user should I register as?
A: Different Users get different types of extra pages. You need to register as a 'Student User' to get the extra pages that are good for you.

Q: I registered as a different type of user - what should I do?
A: E-mail us at info@10ticks.co.uk, put the subject box as 'Change my User Type'. Give us your e-mail address and type in 'Change to student user please'. It should be changed within a working day.

Q: What happens to my account if I don't use it ?
A: The website records the last date you logged in to your account. If your account has not been used for two years then the account is automatically deleted. When this happens all your details are lost, your high scores, test scores and other user details. This is an automated process and this information can not be retrieved at a later date. The moral ? Login regularly!!

Q: Some how I have deleted my account and I want it back! What should I do?
A: E-mail us as soon as you can, we may be able to save it - but no promises!!

  Helps

Q: How do I use the 'help'?
A: Once you have found your 'help' you will see a presentation on how to attempt that type of question. Move forward through the presentation using the forward button in the top left of the screen.

Q: Are there any questions to try?
A: Most 'helps' have a set of questions. After reading the presentation click 'try our questions' at the top of the presentation screen. You will be given a set of 10 questions to attempt.

Q: What would happen if I click any answer for the questions?
A: When you are logged in all your scores are recorded in your user area. This means every time you attempt questions it will affect your overall average. If you click on any answers you will probably get most wrong and it will lower your average.

Q: How can these questions help me?
A: Remember, when you are logged in all your scores are recorded in your user area. This means you can go and look at your scores. You can then see which areas you need help in and then spend time on these 'helps'. Keep attempting the questions until your average improves in that area.

Q: Won't I get the same questions again if I repeat the same 'help' questions?
A: The questions are randomly drawn from a database so you should get different sets of questions each time.

Q: I can't find the help I need.
A: Come back later! New 'helps' are being written everyday. We need to write over 1000 'helps' to cover all the work, so we can't do it all at once.

Q: I find the Help I want but when I click on it the page just appears to refresh. What is wrong?

A: There could be two possible causes for this:

1). You have a pop up 'killer' working. Switch this off and it will work.
2). Java isn't enabled on your computer (it should be the default setting).

Go to Internet explorer, Tools and Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab. Click on 'Restore Defaults'.

  Troubleshooting

Q. I click on the links but nothing happens.. How do I stop this ?
A. It may be that you have a 'pop-up killer' installed. Quite often the firewall you are using will have an ability to stop pop-ups. You need to disable this function as the site uses pop-ups occasionally.

  Chat Room

Q: We want a chat room...come on...
A: Now if we put a chat room on here, hands up who would spend all their time on that and miss everything else on the site. Let's see how things go.
